03622—Earth Science ICPE (Introductory Chemistry, Physics, and Earth Science)

*While 9-12 graders may take this course, it needs to be the first high-school science experience students have.

 

This course introduces the students to the world of science.  It covers the scientific method, metrics, interactions of matter, the periodic table, valence electrons, motion and forces, sound and light, plate tectonics, oceanography, and astronomy.

This course presents classification of organisms, ecology, cytology, cellular respiration, cell reproduction, DNA and genetics, bacteria, viruses, invertebrates, and vertebrates.

This course presents the structure and organization of matter, the conversion of matter from one form to another, chemical reactions, acids and bases, and gases.

 

03720—Anatomy and Physiology

 

Prerequisite:  ICPE and preferably Biology

Course Length:  1 semester

Credits: 5

 

This course presents an in depth look at the human body.  In the anatomy portion of the class students will be required to memorize specific structures of the body.  The physiology portion will focus on the function of specific body systems and their relationship with other systems.
