Civilians and veterans alike enjoyed live music, food and a memorial ceremony hosted by the American Legion that was dedicated to the emergency response personnel who died during the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
Candles were available for purchase in honor of fallen heroes. “The candles are to honor any hero that you have,” said Troy Erickson of the ROP Q house, whether it’s a soldier or a first-responder.
Proceeds went to purchasing American flags that will be displayed on Colorado Boulevard.
“Colorado Boulevard is one of only 30 highways in Colorado that are designated as a Blue Star Memorial Highway,” said Erickson.
An estimated 80 people were in attendance Sunday, including police, first-responders and representatives from organizations such as the Idaho Springs Elks Lodge, VFW, and Rite of Passage.
