JROTC SUMMER CAMP
Six JROTC (Junior Reserve Officer Training Corp) Cadets from the Ridge View Academy (RVA) JROTC Ram Battalion participated in the Denver Public Schools JROTC summer camp called the Junior Cadet Leadership Course (JCLC) from June 6, 2011 through June 10, 2011. 300 Cadets from Denver, Colorado Springs, Canyon City, Pueblo, Grand Junction , and Delta CO and Hot Springs, New Mexico converged on the Peaceful Valley Boy Scout Ranch in Kiowa, CO for 5 days of events that tested them physically and mentally. Cadets slept in tents and ate Meals Ready to Eat (MREs). They participated in numerous activities during the course of the week designed to develop their leadership skills and help facilitate the JROTC Mission of “Motivating Young People To Become Better Citizens”. These events consisted of an obstacles course, a leaders reaction course, team canoe races, rock climbing, repelling, first aid and outdoor survival classes, orienteering and compass courses, and physical challenges such as litter carries, and tug of war. The cadets participated in a community service project consisting of building 400 meters of trail up a mountain side for the Boy Scout Ranch as well. All in all it was a great week for the RVA cadets as they earned 20 medals and one Cadet earned the title of Best Male Cadet Runner Up. They broke a six year record for time and accuracy on the compass course and tied the best time for the obstacle course as well. A great start to a great summer for the Ram Battalion.
